Retrofoto #57: Häuslfenster & Klopfbalkone

70er Jahre, möglicherweise Leopoldstadt

Die strenge geometrie der Wiener hinterhöfe fasziniert mich bis heute. Die bauordnung der gründer-
zeit verlangte natürliches licht für jeden raum einer wohnung, und so entstanden diese beeindruckenden
strukturen. Und ja, in den letzten 14 tagen war ich ein fauler blogger, bitte um vergebung...

One more backyard. Viennese construction laws stated that there had to be natural light in every
room, including toilets. ( After WWII, this law was abolished) The tiny balconies were thought
to serve as carpet-cleaning facilities.

Ya conocen mi particular interés por los patios de los los edificios del siglo XIX. Aquí ven un conjunto
de ventanitas de retrete acompañados por pequeños balcones que no eran pensados para otra cosa
que no sería la tarea doméstica de limpiar alfombras. Según las leyes de la época, todas las habitaciones
de un edificio ( incluídos los retretes ) debían ser iluminadas por luz natural, y para lograrlo, los
arquitéctos del fin de siglo inventaron lo que hasta hoy se llama "Lichthof" ( patio de luz ).
Estos patios de unos 10 metros cuadrados no eran otra cosa que chimeneas al revés -  en la chimenea
normal y corriente sube el humo hasta el cielo, y en la "chimenea invertida" baja la luz del sol hasta
el sótano. La foto tiene su interés porque es un testimonio de algo inacabado, falta el edificio siguiente
para completar el "Lichthof", cosa muy vienesa, porque aquí abundan ejemplos de lo acabado a medias.

Retrofoto #54: Klassisches Motiv

Italien, 80er jahre

Das zweitälteste bildmotiv der kunstgeschichte, mit einem gewissen faible für abstraktion.
( Das älteste war natürlich jagdwild - Lascaux, Altamira etc. - denn mit leerem bauch
ans pudern auch nur zu denken scheint mir illusorisch ). Absicht oder nicht, der mit einer
schönen kurve dargestellte asymmetrische hodensack insinuiert einen funken naturbeobachtung
- also "naturalismus" im verständnis des 16.jhs - beim urheber der komposition.

I like it rough, I like it classy with a touch of irony, all assembled  here. The second most
pictured theme of art history ( the first is deer, of course, because with nothing to digest
nobody would put screwing as a priority ) Even Mr.Clinton would call this SEX.
But it all being very classical - only Italians can do that, for them it's natural, unlike  France
and other countries, where it's just learned - it contains a grain of "naturalismo" in the sense
the 16th century ( the Caravaggio debate ) in the the slightly asymmetrical form depicting
the scrotum. The representation of the vagina is abstract, inducing me to think that the author
had to be male.

Clasicismo/ naturalismo, eterno debate sin solución. Este conjunto clásico ( sobre soporte "romantico",
quiere decir un muro que está deshaciendose por días  ) tiene tinte "naturalista" por la curva muy elegante pero asimétrica del escroto. La vulva por contrario está representada de manera idealizante ( casí abstracta ) lo que hace pensar que el autor del grafiti debía ser masculino.Una versión bastante
lograda del segundo motivo del arte pictórico, el primero siendo representaciones de venado,
porque con hambre las ganas de follar pasan a ser ideas secundarias.

Mit tischpost, um auch der moderne ihr recht zu geben.

Ad for heavy drinkers who did not despise female company. In Vienna of things past
a bar like this was called " a widows café".

Señoras hermosas, buen vino... en el Viena de los setenta a un establecimiento de parecidas
caracterísiticas se lo llamaba " café de viudas ".

Retrofoto #52: Agfa blue, once more

Leicht unscharf, wie oft bei meinen fotos - aber der farbton! Wie im aquarium, nur die fische im
vordergrund fehlen.

Slightly out of focus, but colour degradation did a very good job.

Parece ser una toma subacuática, sólo faltan unos peces decorativos en el primer plano...

Retrofoto #51: Kurrentschrift in Neon

Nach den ungewissen informationen meiner grauen zellen - 8.bezirk

Damals eine kuriosität, und wer weiß, ob sie heute noch existiert - eine neonschrift in
kurrent! ( Felix Cmelinsky nach meiner transkription ) Bis 1938 war kurrent in Österreich
schulschrift, die nazis führten dann die lateinische schreibschrift als verbindlich ein, wobei es
auch nach 1945 blieb. Mein Vater, jahrgang 1925, hat, wie viele seiner generation,
zeitlebens eine mischform aus beidem geschrieben, was ein sehr apartes schriftbild ergab.

A very curious neon sign ( Felix Cmelinsky ) done in german current writing letters
- who knows if it exists anymore? I'd go there and verify - but I can't remember where to. To
my  knowledge, it was the only one remaining in Vienna at the time of the shooting, early 80's.
The nazis imposed latin letters in the "Reich" and after the "Anschluss" in 1938 they
imposed it on austrian ( i.e. "Ostmark") schoolkids too. My father, born in 1925, invented
a quite attractive mix of both systems in his very beautiful handwriting.

Una curiosidad en neón porque escrita con letras de gótico corriente, que era
la escritura escolar en Austria hasta el fatídico marzo de 1938. Los nazis no tardaron en
imponer las letras latinas, lo que hizo que mi padre ( nacido en 1925 ) nunca escribía
ni lo uno ni lo otro, sino un tipo de escritura híbrida de alto atractivo gráfico.
Según mi parecer, el letrero significa un nombre propio, Felix Cmelinsky.

15. Bezirk

Vor 80 jahren...irgendwie passt das bild.

Same day as today, 80 years ago, the austrofascist movement ( Heimwehr ) annihilated
the remainig rests of democracy and established a reaccionary dictatorship.

Hoy día hace 80 años, los austrofascistas anihilaron brutalmente lo poco que aún
quedaba del partido socialdemócrata y los últimos atisbos de democracia parlamentaria.
El régimen autoritario que establecieron era un no va más de ineptitud y sandeces
propagandístcas y finalmente allanaba el camino hacia el " Anschluss ".
