Retroprint #16: Franz-Josefs-Kai im Schnee

Postkarte, datiert 1931, wahrscheinlich 1929
Postkarte, 20er jahre

There's no snow in Vienna nowadays, so some old captures may come to the rescue -
2 picture-postcards from the 1920's showing Franz-Josefs-Kai from Schwedenplatz to Urania covered
by the white stuff.
In april 1945, this was the theatre of intense battle between the Red Army and the Wehrmacht
( the russians entrenched on the side of the first district, the germans on the shores of the second )
and most of the buildings seen here were destroyed by fierce shelling from both sides.

Retroprint #15: Kunerol

10 dkg starker Vanillezucker, 1 Ei, alles gut durchkneten.

Joyeux Noel!

PS. Für zahlenzwangler - die additionen sind korrekt.

One very old notepad found in an old cooking manual, maybe in use even before
WW I.  KUNEROL, a coconut-based margarine, was produced in a factory
in Atzgersdorf ( Vienna ) and it's santa-red packaging style gave me the idea to use
this as the X-mas post. At the backside of the notepad the company placed recipes,
but sorry, I'm not able to translate this kind of prose into english.
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Firewalls suggest sculptural qualities: a harsh contrast with a rather curbed environment, but for
me, the main interest of this dia resides in tonality: grey-brown, grey-green, and even grey-yellow.
The colours of Vienna at that time. Some detail for the english-reading crowd: in the upper windows
you can easily distinguish white dots at the bottom. Back then, all windows in Vienna were
double-frame and made of wood ( logically, reminding the winters we suffer ).
After some umpty years of service, due to the weather, distorsion came in and all
those windows, even being double-frame, didn't really close. Cold air could enter. Solution?
One  pillow made for the task. Put in between the frames it was supposed to lower the entrance of cold air. There's no way to translate "Fensterpolster" into english, because such things do not exist in english-speaking latitudes, and they don't even exist here anymore, because all windows have been changed to modern ones.
( Double frame, of course )

I like Paris (who wouldn't?) but that's my second city. Great people, great light and
great language. You may shake your heads, but  I'd change 9 tickets out of 10 when it
comes to "Paris or Madrid?"

Soy adicto. Sin más comentarios.
